Throughout Wagtail 3.0 to 4.2, there have been numerous significant changes to the editor interface to make it more modern and user-friendly. Then, we added dark mode in Wagtail 5.0 and a few incremental tweaks to the listing UI for pages and snippets in Wagtail 5.1 and 5.2.

However, until that point, the rest of the admin UI was largely the same – even when compared to Wagtail 2.x which came out years ago. We finally changed this in Wagtail 6.0 with the introduction of the "Universal Listings" project, which overhauled the listing views for pages and snippets, that were expanded to other areas in 6.1.
